Wireless portable endoscope, x-ray and ultrasound, with stall-side processing
Perth Equine Vets / Wireless portable endoscope, x-ray and ultrasound, with stall-side processing
Having access to state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment to be used in your own yard, is vital to ensure rapid diagnosis. The ultrasound, endoscope, x-ray generator, and processing unit are all completely mobile, meaning a diagnosis can be reached instantly without having to take the equipment back to the practice for processing. In some cases, horses will need to be transported to a more suitable location to facilitate examination, which will be discussed on a case by case basis.
Radiographs
In order to complete radiographs at your premises, we will need access to a covered area, with a clean, flat surface. The horse must be free from mud to avoid artefacts on the x-ray image. Under 18s or pregnant individuals will not be able to be present for the radiographs. Stall side processing ensures we will be able to assess the image in real time, and make recommendations efficiently. Some horses will require sedation.
Ultrasound
A quiet darkened area should be available in order for us to complete an ultrasound examination. Some horses will require sedation.
Respiratory Endoscopy
A stable with a nearby electrical point will be required. A table for the processing unit will be provided, as well as an extension lead. Horses will be sedated to aid the examination. Coughing is quite normal when performing endoscopy, and can be quite marked at times, particularly in horses with respiratory disease.
Gastroscopy
Passing a gastroscope into the stomach to assess for glandular and squamous ulceration is vital to ensure the correct treatment is carried out. The horse will require to be starved for a minimum of 12 hours prior to the appointment. A stable with a nearby electrical point will be required. A table for the processing unit will be provided, as well as an extension lead. Horses will be sedated to aid the examination.
